About the event
In honor of the birthday of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, join us for a screening of Heart of Tibet: An Intimate Portrait of the 14th Dalai Lama, shown alongside archival clips from His Holiness's visit to our Museum.
Filmed during his 1989 trip to Los Angeles — the same year he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize — this hour-long documentary follows the Dalai Lama as he leads the Kalachakra, or "Wheel of Time," initiation before thousands, including the creation of an intricate sand mandala. As much a portrait of the man as of the moment, the film captures his rare blend of gravity and warmth, and the lasting impression he leaves on all who come into his presence.
