Hours

The Museum welcomes visitors WED – SUN from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as major holidays per the City Clerk's Office — check our website and social media for updates. On select evenings, we extend our hours for special programming — check the calendar for upcoming dates. 

Galleries begin closing 15 minutes ahead of the posted closing time, so plan your last stop accordingly.

 

What to Expect

Getting In Enter through the main staircase on the right, at 338 Lighthouse Ave. We require that one member of each party register with a name and email address, either before your visit or at the door. We use this only for visit-related communication and occasional museum news — you can unsubscribe anytime.

Accessibility 

We want every visitor to be able to explore and enjoy the collection, and we believe in giving you the full picture so you can plan your visit with confidence.

The Museum is situated on a lower level of the hill, with the entrance reached by descending thirteen non-uniform flagstone steps down a narrow staircase from the street. The handrail is non-continuous. The entrance opens through wide double doors, with additional steps continuing down to the exhibition area.

Due to the nature of the historic stone construction and hillside setting, there is no elevator access, and the Museum is not currently wheelchair accessible. We encourage anyone with accessibility questions to reach out before their visit — we're happy to help you plan ahead. Contact us at info@tibetanmuseum.org.

Inside, the main exhibition space is a single large room on the lower level, with seating on wooden benches and folding chairs. Signage throughout is in small print, and printed guides are available for select collections and singular pieces. A unisex restroom is available on the lower level. There is no water fountain on site.

Parking

Parking is limited, available in front of the Museum and on adjacent streets. Please do not block driveways of neighbors. Note that Lighthouse Avenue has a steep grade, and there are no curb ramps in the immediate area.

Your Safety, and Everyone Else's

Our visitor services staff are on-site to support a positive experience for all guests and to help protect the artwork on view.

Visitor Guidelines

We ask all guests to be considerate of fellow visitors, staff, and the art. Behavior that puts people or artwork at risk — including harassment, threats, discrimination, or other disruptive conduct — isn't permitted, and may result in being asked to leave. Please follow directions from staff at all times; they're there to keep the visit safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Unsolicited promotion, sales, or canvassing inside the Museum requires advance staff approval. For everyone's health and comfort, shoes and shirts must be worn throughout the building.

Bags & Belongings

We ask that large bags and bulky items be left outside or in your vehicle before entering. Certain items aren't permitted inside, including signage, banners, framed pieces or artwork, carts, sports equipment, art supplies like paint or adhesives, and similar gear. Staff reserve the right to deny entry to anything deemed unsafe or disruptive. Please note we can't take responsibility for items left outside.

Getting Here with a Bike

Bike parking is available on Lighthouse Avenue. We ask that all bikes be locked and secured before entering — there is a garage on Lighthouse Ave near the entrance that works well for this. Please do not bring bikes inside.

Food & Drink

Meals and snacks should be saved for our designated dining areas outside — eating and drinking isn't allowed in the gallery spaces. The one exception is water in a transparent, sealed bottle; bottles that aren't clear will need to be left outside. Once you're in an eating area, feel free to open your water bottle.

Strollers

Most spaces are stroller-friendly, with the exception of jogging strollers and other oversized models — our staff can point you toward accessible routes. If you're visiting with a stroller, mornings or our dedicated stroller-friendly tour times tend to be easiest for getting around. Babies in soft carriers are always welcome, no restrictions.
