Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art is recognized for its rare Himalayan-style architecture, the first of its kind in the United States, and for its historical association with founder Jacques Marchais, a pioneering collector and self-taught scholar of Tibetan art. When His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited the museum in 1991, he said it was like being in Tibet.
