About the event

Join us for an afternoon of poetry, discussion, and participation with Marguerite Maria Rivas — poet, scholar, storyteller, and Staten Island's first Poet Laureate. The author of two poetry collections, Rivas writes and teaches at the intersection of literature and lived experience, exploring how the world and the heart are broken and mended. An Associate Professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College, she also performs improvisational poetry with blues and jazz musicians — and welds in her spare time.
