About the event

The Four Commitments of the 14th Dalai Lama: Values, Harmony, Preservation, Revival

Put some AWE – Awakening, Wisdom, Experience – Into Saturday!

Join the JMMTA for this new four session course The Four Commitments of the 14th Dalai Lama:

Values, Harmony, Preservation, Revival as we look at the 14th Dalai Lama’s Four Commitments promoting human values, encouraging religious harmony, preserving Tibetan culture, and reviving ancient Indian wisdom.

Beginning with a two-hour opening session that provides context for the course and examines the first commitment - the influence of human values, each one-hour session that follows will focus on a commitment and connect content to Tibetan art, exploring the commitment’s significance, different ways in which it can be actualized, and its potential impact on  own experience and on our global society.

About the Instructor:

Tashi Chödrön , a lay Buddhist practitioner, is one of the first women of her generation in exile to receive the entire teachings of the Vajrayana path directly from HH Penor Rinpoche (one of the greatest masters of the 20th century) including Ngondro—preliminary teachings, Tsalung and Dzogchen, the pinnacle teachings of the Great Perfection. As the Himalayan Programs and Communities Ambassador at the Rubin Museum of Art, she has taught at the Rubin and Kripalu and online for Tibet House, NYC. The founder and current director of Voices of Tibet, an organization dedicated to conducting interviews with Tibetan elders to save their stories for future generations and to educate the world about Tibet, she is also a board member of the UN Women’s USA NY Chapter.

As part of the JMMTA’s Global Resonance Program , this program is offered free of charge by the Department of Cultural Affairs, under the stewardship of Commissioner Laurie Cumbo.
