About the event
Mir Naqibul Islam, Brooklyn Public Library Heritage Artist 2024, is a tabla virtuoso from Bangladesh, based in New York who performs actively, fusing tabla drumming with different genres like jazz, flamenco, and Arabic music. Having trained over a thousand students, he is committed to nurturing the next generation of tabla talent. Mir leads his trio and participates in various cross-genre projects.
Join us for a 90-minute workshop exploring the basics of South Asian rhythm through the captivating art of tabla. Discover how tabla rhythms and time cycles can enrich your appreciation of any music genre, no prior training needed. Alongside rhythmic techniques, you’ll gain insight into tabla’s history and its cross-cultural influence in diverse musical styles.
