Join interdisciplinary artist Erik Bergrin for an immersive exploration of The Eight Dissolutions, a series of figurative sculptures and video works inspired by Buddhist visualization practices he first encountered while studying at a monastery in Nepal. More than an artist talk, this program explores the intersection of Buddhist philosophy, meditation, lucid dreaming, and material experimentation. Using The Eight Dissolutions as a starting point, Bergrin examines how visualization practices, contemplative traditions, and altered states of consciousness can be translated into physical form through textiles, sculpture, video, and experimental biomaterials like crystals, bismuth formations, kombucha-based textiles, and seaweed-based fabrics. Two sculptures from the series are currently on view at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art. The program includes a talk, time for audience Q&A, and concludes with a guided "finding your shadows" meditation, adapted from a Tibetan Buddhist visualization practice that invites participants to engage with a personal obstacle through imagination and dialogue. This event offers a rare chance to experience the ideas behind the work through both discussion and practice.
