The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art offers Tai Chi classes given by Bob Murphy every Saturday at 3pm. Admission is $20/$15 for members. Learning and practicing Tai Chi in the right environment is important. The peaceful environment of the Jacques Marchais Museum surroundings will make you to feel calm and allow you to focus on your movements. The Jacques Marchais is situated high up on Lighthouse Hill creating a very quiet and serene environment for meditation. When the weather allows, Bob's classes are often given in the garden which has a mesmerizing view over the neighborhoods of Staten Island and eastward, reaching the shoreline of the Atlantic ocean. Many people come to the museum just to sit and reflect in this area. At times, a wind chime blows softly in the background while classes take place. When you close your eyes, you will find it hard to believe that you are on Staten Island. Bob Murphy, L.AC. (Tai Chi) has studied Chinese martial and healing arts for the past thirty-five years. For the past 28 years, he studied weekly with renowned Grandmaster Yu Cheng Hsiang until the master’s death in November 2010. Bob studied both Tai Chi Chuan and Shaolin systems. He has taught Tai Chi at the New York Open Center from 1993-2003. For the past 13 years he has been teaching at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art on Staten Island and Moving Visions Dance Studio.
