Cultural Immigrant Initiative Programming 2017-2018

The Cultural Immigrant Initiative
The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art was awarded grant funding to present a series of cultural programs between July of 2017 and June 0f 2018. This Initiative was sponsored by Councilmember Steven Matteo, Councilmember Debi Rose, and Councilmember Joseph Borelli. These programs enabled the Museum to fulfill our mission of presenting the art and culture of Tibet and South Asia to a world audience.
The programs included an Avalokiteshvara Ceremony led by Khenpo Kunga Dhondup of the Pema Ts’al Monastic Institute, two performances by the Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY, a Winter Break hands-on workshop where kids and adults could make their own prayer flags, a Prayer Flag Ceremony with Khenpo Pema Wangdak, and two performances by the Tibetan musicians trained at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.
