Tai Chi Classes

The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art offers Tai Chi classes every Friday from 1:00 – 2:00pm and Saturday from 4:00 – 5:00pm. Admission is $12/$10 for members. This gentle form of physical exercise and stretching can be done by anyone. Beginners and experienced practitioners are welcome to participate in the classes. Tai chi has many benefits for the body and mind. It promotes meditation and physical well-being.

Bob Murphy, Saturdays, 4:00 - 5:00 PM

Bob Murphy, L.AC. (Tai Chi) has studied Chinese martial and healing arts for the past thirty-five years. For the past twenty-seven years, he studied weekly with renowned Grandmaster Yu Cheng Hsiang until the master’s death in November 2010. Bob studied both Tai Chi Chuan and Shaolin systems. He has taught Tai Chi at the New York Open Center from 1993-2003. For the past twelve years he has been teaching at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art on Staten Island and Moving Visions Dance Studio.

Kristen Dolan-Murphy, Fridays 1:00 - 2:00 PM

Kristen Dolan-Murphy studied Yang Style Tai Chi, Tai Chi Sword, Shaolin and Shaolin stick forms with Grandmaster Yu Cheng Hsiang for the past 17 years. She holds Master’s degrees in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (Pacific College of Oriental Medicine) and Education (City University of New York). For the past three years, she has taught tai chi at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art.
