TIBETAN FOLK SONGS
The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art is pleased to be a recipient of a Cultural Immigrant Initiative Grant from Councilmembers Steve Matteo and Debi Rose. This program supports the Museum’s mission of presenting the art and culture of Tibet to a world audience. On Saturday, June 10th, the Museum welcomed Tibetan musicians, Dawa Bhuti and Tashi Tsering who performed Tibetan opera, classical songs, Tibetan folk songs and dance, all played on traditional instruments.

Dawa and Tashi were trained at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts. TIPA was established by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on August 11, 1959. Based in Dharamsala, India, the institute aims to preserve and promote Tibetan musical heritage and arts.
Dawa shared with the audience information about the three provinces of Tibeta, U-tsang, Kham and Amdo as well as showed photos of the traditional dress of each region.
